Art Therapy
Art Therapy at The Children’s Learning Center offers creative art activities and experiences that are an important vehicle for our students to gain a sense of control and mastery of their environment and allows for a unique opportunity for self-expression especially for those children still developing their language skills. Art therapy sessions offer chances for sensory and media exploration, social awareness and of course fun. Unique materials are presented to the students that range from foam, plastics, wood, textured paper, fabric, as well as various paints, pastels and clay. The students also utilize many recycled materials. Art Therapy sessions are presented in a playful yet structured manner in order to allow the children an opportunity to explore new materials and art techniques. Children are worked closely with to develop the most appropriate devices to allow them the ability to work as independently as possible. The goals for the students addressed during the sessions deal with socialization, communication, impulse control, behavioral issues, self-esteem and frustration tolerance. All of our families are invited to attend our annual Children’s Learning Center Art Exhibit on March 11-12 2008.
